Beautifully mounted and displayed, this gown from the Mint Museum is just awe inspiring. We have seen this brocaded fabric a zillion times, but the addition of the trim makes the statement. All, and I mean ALL of the thin scallops and swirls and edgings are white fly fringe. Unimaginable to try and reproduce but one has to admire. And worth a road trip. Who is up for a trip to North Carolina after to see this exhibit!
I wish there was a closeup of this one, the white trim running down center front looks like an addon, but I would have to see closeups to be sure. It could be ribbon that did not fade evenly with the rest of the garment, but it does look a little odd. ? Would love to see this one is person or some good closeups.
Not as spectacular as the others, rather subdued in fact, but pretty none the less.
You know you have been around too long when you recognize museum pieces that were listed by dealers. This hat was sold quite a while ago by Vintage Textiles. It is velvet and gorgeous. Not quite the date of the dress but it looks lovely any way. Again, wonderful mounting of the gowns. Nicely done Mint Museum.
